On February 6, at the Presidential Palace, the President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili met with the representatives of the State Agency for Religious Issues and religious confessions. The meeting was attended by the members of the Interreligious Council at the State Agency for Religious Issues: head of the press center of the Patriarchate of Georgia Archpriest Andria Jaghmaidze, Sheikh of Georgia Ramin Igidov, Mufti of West Georgia Adam Shantadze, Mufti of East Georgia Yasin Aliyev, Bishop Giuseppe Pazoto of the Apostolic Administration of the Caucasus, Priest of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Georgia Rusik Arutunian, Chairman of Tbilisi Grand Synagogue Merab Chanchalashvili, Rabbi Rakhamim Murdukhashvili, Chairman of the Spiritual Council of Yazidis Dimitri Pirbari, Bishop of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church Marcus Shokh, Bishop of the Union of Evangelical Christian Baptist Church Gia Kandelaki, Pastor of the Evangelical Faith Church Guram Imerlishvili, Senior Pastor of the Evangelical-Protestant Church Giorgi Chitadze, Pastor of Tbilisi International Baptist Church Charles Hoblitz and the representatives of the Agency: Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze, Deputy Chairman Giorgi Ukleba and Head of Strategic Research, Analysis and Regional Service of the Agency Nino Chavchavadze.
The Chairman of the Agency for Religion briefed the President on the projects implemented by the Agency and ongoing projects. According to Zaza Vashakmadze, the leaders of religious organizations make a significant contribution to the advancement and development of the country.
The President emphasized the culture of tolerance in Georgia and said: “our unity today, is of great importance in order to respond successfully to the new challenges facing the country”.
