Today, on the 23^rd of March, academic conference dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of restoration of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church was held at Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. Especially for this day, at the first building of TSU the exhibition – “Autocephaly 100” has been opened where unique ecclesiastical publications, unique archival manuscripts preserved at the University library and Museum were exposed which documentary reflected the process of restoration of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church 100 years ago.  There were also exposed the photos and documents of the clergy taking part in the process of restoration of autocephaly (Kyrion II, Leonide, Kalistrate Tsintsadze, Ambrosi Khelaia) and the books and things of Kyrion II (Sadzaglishvili) the first Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia after the restoration of autocephaly.

In the reports of the participants – professors of higher educational institutions, representatives of the Patriarchate – attending the academic conference dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of restoration of autocephaly of the Georgian Orthodox Church peripetias connected to the process of restoration of autocephaly and its greatest historical importance in the life of the country were emphasized.

The chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze made a speech at the academic conference. He noted the special role of the church and emphasized the symbolic historical parallel – at the beginning and at the end of the XX century the freedom and independence of the church preceded freedom and independence of Georgia
