Today, on November 18, at the branch of Al-Mustafa University in Georgia, the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, met with Rasul Eslam the Chargé d'Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran (Acting Ambassador) .

 

The meeting was attended by: Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the  Agency, Giorgi Ukleba, Deputy Chairman of the Agency, Giorgi Patashuri and Zviad Tkabladze, Employees of the Agency for Strategic Research, Analysis and Regions, Rasul Islam the Chargé d'Affaires of Iran (Acting Ambassador) Representative of Al Mustafa University, Davood Zare, Sheikh of Georgia, Ramin Igidov, Cultural Adviser Hamid Mostafavi, Translator of the Embassy of Iran in Georgia Soso Onikashvili.

At the meeting, the Iranian side briefed the Chairman of the Agency on the activities of Al-Mustafa University in Georgia, on the curriculum at the University and the prospects for future educational activities.

Talks also focused on the implemented and ongoing projects of the Agency, the activities of the Interreligious Council, the annual conferences and the trainings conducted within the framework of the Governmental Action Plan for Human Rights.

Rasul Eslami thanked Zaza Vashakmadze for his visit and positively assessed the policy of the Georgian state in the field of religion and the mechanisms of financing the Muslim community and the transfer of mosques. The fact that Sunni and Shiite Muslims live together in peace in Georgia, which is a unified independent Georgian Islamic phenomenon, was also positively assessed. The Iranian side underlined thefreedom of religion in Georgia and thanked Zaza Vashakmadze for the assistance provided by the Agency to the Muslim community.

At the end of the meeting, the Iranian side expressed its desire for even closer cooperation in the future in order to deepen bilateral relations.
