Today, Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues met with Dr Sabine Machl, UN Resident Coordinator in Georgia. The meeting was attended by the Deputy Chairman of the Agency Giorgi Ukleba and the Head of Strategic Research, Analysis and Regions Office, Nino Chavchavadze.
At the meeting, the Chairman of the Religious Agency briefed the guest on religious policy in Georgia, the state's recent activities in this area and the activities of the State Agency for Religious Issues. Zaza Vashakmadze talked about religious organizations funding program, transferring religious buildings, the training held within the framework of the government action plan, the establishment of the Inter-religious Council format, the current situation in the direction of religious freedom in Georgia and its Occupied regions and current challenges in this area.
Dr Sabine Machl welcomed the agency's work on freedom of religion and human rights, endorsed the agency's projects, outlining the format of inter-religious dialogue. According to her, it is unique in its content. The guest spoke about the new UN agenda, which envisages that by 2030 the objectives of the UN should be fulfilled without discrimination, taking into account the diversity of religious denominations and gender.
At the end of the meeting, the sides discussed the prospects of future cooperation between the newly established Inter-Religious Council at UN Headquarters, New York and the State Agency for Religious Issues.
