Today, Zaza Vashakmadze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Giorgi Ukleba, Deputy Chairman, Badri Cherkezishvili, Director of the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Archive staff Ivane Jakhua and Levan Vardidze met with the members of the Inter-Religious Council: Georgian Apostolic Autocephalous Orthodox Church Jewish Union of Georgia, Administration of Muslims of All Georgia, Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy Church in Georgia, Apostolic Administration of the Caucasus, Evangelical-Lutheran Church, Evangelical-Protestant Church.
The Chairman of the Agency introduced the members of the Interreligious Council about the joint initiative of the Agency and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia – which means publishing a paper, based on archival materials, about the clergymen of different religious organizations who were repressed during the Soviet period. Badri Cherkezishvili, Director of the Archive of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and Archive staff Ivane Jakhua and Levan Vardidze, addressed the members of the Council and talked about the importance of publishing.
All members of the Interreligious Council, without exception, welcomed the new initiative. Zaza Vashakmadze proposed to each of them to provide all the information they have about the repressed clergy so that it can be fully reflected in the new edition.
