Meeting at the University of Vienna

At the end of the visit to the Republic of Austria, the Religious Agency held a meeting with professor of the Faculty of Religious Studies at the Academic department of Theology of the University of Vienna, Wolfram Rice. The Georgian delegation was represented by Zaza Vashakmadze, Head of the Agency of Religious Issues, Senior Specialist of Strategic Research, Analysis and Regional Service, Sergo Parulava, Senior Specialist at Legal service, Valerian Liluashvili and Advisor of the Ambassador of Georgia Salome Tripolsky.

The head of the Religious Agency introduced the religious situation in Georgia, reviewed the religious policy of the state and the activities of the agency and noted that the aim of the visit is to study the experience of Austria in the field of religion and to introduce and analyze legislative regulations in this regard.

The professor pointed out that he has a particularly close relation with the Eastern Orthodox world and respects its ancient traditions. He spoke about the specificities of religious organizations and unions in Austria and touched upon the gradual approach of registration of the religious organizations.

Mr. Rice has expressed his opinion, about to improve the existing model of religious policy in future, According to him it is necessary that religious organizations should have positive attitude toward the existing legislation, it is complimentary that number of clergy receives education in Austria, also local funding experience of Religious organizations. According to him, it is of great importance to academic level, interreligious level of cooperation and deep scientific research, as well as studying theology in universities, and in schools interreligious teaching modules. 

Professor of Religious Sciences, Wolfram Rice, promised active cooperation with the Georgian side.
