Meeting with Ambassador of Islamic Republic of Iran

The chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze continues holding introductory meetings with the newly appointed ambassadors.

On the 16th of March, the chairman of the agency met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Georgia H.E Seyed Javad Ghavam Shahidi.

Zaza Vashakmadze introduced the guest the country’s religious policy, main directions of the agency’s activities and the decisions made by the government regarding the Muslim community in recent years.

H.E Seyed Javad Ghavam Shahidi thanked the authorities for attention and constructive attitude towards the religious organizations.

In addition, the chairman of the agency and the ambassador talked about the importance of a peaceful coexistence between different religions and about the current situation in the world, especially in the Middle East. It was noted that the use of religion for increasing the extent of violence is unacceptable. 

H.E Seyed Javad Ghavam Shahidi said that Georgia is a perfect example of a peaceful coexistence between different religions, an example of how the state should take care for religious organizations and how the representatives of different religions should cooperate with the state.

The ambassador offered the chairman of the agency to cooperate with all the issues that would promote a peaceful coexistence between different religions.

In the end, the ambassador discussed several issues with the chairman of the agency that concerned a travelling of Iranian tourists to Georgia and visit of the Spiritual Leader of Tehran.

Zaza Vashakmadze wished a successful activity in Georgia to the newly appointed Ambassador.
