Meeting with Ambassador of Romenia

The chairman of the State agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Romania to Georgia Radu Liviu Horumba. The meeting took place in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

The chairman of the agency talked about the relationship between the two countries and his special attitude towards Romania. He noted that Georgia and Romania are both Orthodox countries with common values. Saint Anthim the Iberian’s contribution to the history and culture of Romania as well as in the sphere of religion is crucial. Such kind of cases strengthen the existent deep ties between the two countries.

In addition, Zaza Vashakmadze introduced the activities of the agency to the Ambassador. He noted that Romania’ experience regarding co-operation with NATO and EU is also important for Georgia.

The decision of creating the agency by the government was described as the best by Radu Liviu Horumba, noting that Georgia is advanced country in the region in terms of freedom of religion and democracy.  The agency can play a great role to facilitate these processes.

The Ambassador confirmed that Romania supports Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic aspirations and timely start-up of visa liberalization by the help of EU.

The parties talked about the current situation in the region and the perspectives of future cooperation between Georgia and Romania.

The ambassador invited the chairman of the agency to Wallachia, Romania, where St. Anthim the Iberian was one of the greatest ecclesiastic figures of this region.

Radu Liviu Horumba came to Georgia as an ambassador on the 26th of September, this year, in the days of celebrating 300th anniversary of St. Anthim the Iberian.
