Within the frames of the visit to the Republic of Austria, the delegation of the State Agency for Religious Issues met with Vice-Resident of the Jewish Union of Vienna, Dezon Davarashvili and the Secretary General of the Jewish Austrian Community, Raimund Fastenbauer.
Zaza Vashakmadze thanked the hosts for the warm reception and spoke about details of the Georgian state's activities in Religious policy, Chairman of the Agency underlined the importance of Georgian-Jewish 26 centuries of friendship.
It was noted that the Jewish community was given almost all the synagogues in Georgia and state provides the preservation them, with participation of high government officials of the Georgian and Israel government, Georgian state celebrated the 120th anniversary of Oni synagogue and the 275th anniversary of the Akhaltsikhe synagogue. Zaza Vashakmadze also noted that with the initiative of the Agency and with the support of the Government, the tradition of Georgian-Jewish 26-century unique relations has been granted status of intangible cultural heritage and Georgia has already addressed UNESCO to recognize the national intangible cultural heritage at international level.
The leadership of the Jewish community has endorsed the activities of the Agency and the Georgian state towards the Jewish community and the attitude towards other confessions in Georgia. The Vice-President of the Jewish Vienna Union, Dezon Davarashvili, noted that the he is Georgian Jew and in the near future plans to visit Georgia and warmly recall the years spent in Georgia.
The hosts noted that they have close cooperation with the Austrian authorities and will support the Georgian side in recognition of UNESCO's status as a non-cultural cultural heritage status of the Georgian-Jewish 26-century unique relationship tradition.
