The chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze met with Rene Levonyan the president of the Eurasian Regional Armenian Evangelical Church.
Rene Levonyan briefed the chairman about his visit to the Middle East, particularly in Syria, Iraq and Libya, as well as the scheduled visit to Kosovo. The guest interested in the issues of religious tolerance and freedom of religion in Georgia.
Zaza Vashakmadze introduced the guest to the activities of the state in terms of freedom of religion and tolerance that contributes to harmonious coexistence of different religious confessions of Georgia.
Rene Levonyan noted, that Georgian state has succeeded in terms of democratic development and stressed the importance of the activities of the State Agency for Religious Issues in this regard. According to him, the activities fulfilled by the agency, in particular financial and property assistance of the confessions, has no analogue in the region. Mr. Levonyan invited Mr. Vashakmadze to France, to participate at the annual scientific conference of the International Organization (CREDO) “Centre for Research and Documentation”. He will also organize a public lecture in Paris to introduce a Georgian model of relationship between the state and religious organizations.
