The second Georgian-American international conference on the topic: "The Role of Religious Education in Overcoming Modern Global Challenges" was opened at the Radisson Blu Hotel Batumi.

The organizers of the conference are the State Agency for Religious Issues and the authoritative non-governmental organization of the United States of America "Institute for Global Engagement".

The conference was opened and the participants were welcomed by Zaza Vashakmadze, the chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Bob Roberts, the president of the Institute for Global Engagement, and Akaki Dzneladze, the Deputy Minister of Education, Culture and Sports of the Autonomous Republic of Adjara.

Zaza Vashakmadze, the chairman of the Agency presented the first report to the conference on the topic "Education Against Radicalism", Bob Roberts, the president of the "Institute for Global Engagement", spoke on the topic "Combating Extremism by Building Multi-faith Relations", Public Defender of Georgia Levan Ioseliani spoke about the “Modern Challenges of Religious Tolerance”, presentation was made by James Chen, the vice president of the “Institute for Global Engagement”, Davit Davitashvili, Head of the Legal Maintenance Office of the  Agency, spoke about the “Violations of Religious Freedom in the Occupied Territories of Georgia”, the “Necessity of Inter-cultural Religious Education” was discussed in his report by Dennis Hover, a senior employee of the “Institute for Global Engagement”, Koba Chopliani, Director of the Center for Harmonious Development of Cultural Diversity, spoke about the “Role of Religion in Establishing Peace and Harmonious Relationship Between Nations/Ethnic Groups”.

The first day of the conference was summarized by the chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze. The second Georgian-American international conference will end tomorrow.

The first international conference on "Religion and the Rule of Law" organized by the Agency and the USA "Institute for Global Engagement" was held in Tbilisi last year.
