At the Administration of the Government of Georgia, the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, held an introductory meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Austria to Georgia, Robert Gerschner.

Ambassador Gerschner was interested in the religious confessions of Georgia, the activities of the Interreligious Council and State’s funding of confessions, on which he received comprehensive information from the Chairman of the Agency.

Zaza Vashakmadze drew attention to the facts of violation of the religious rights of the Georgian population living in the occupied territories of Georgia and noted that the international community can do more in this regard than a policy of non-recognition. According to him, the Georgian ethnic, religious and cultural traces are systematically being erased in the occupied territories.

At the end of the meeting, the Agency’s publications were presented to the Ambassador.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Austria to Georgia expressed his desire to cooperate with the Agency and thanked the Chairman for the reception.
