The delegation of the State Agency for Religious Issues met with the Chairman of the Justice Committee of the Hungarian Parliament, Imre Vejkey.
In response to the presentation of the religious situation and religious policy in Georgia by the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, the Chairman of the Committee emphasized the similarity of two countries’ history, Georgia and Hungary in respect for traditional values. According to him, the culture and identity of Hungary are based on Christian values, and accordingly, their current constitution also protects Christian values and family traditions, which is the subject of criticism from Brussels and some Western European countries. However, Hungary does not intend to abandon traditional values.
Zaza Vashakmadze spoke about the violations of human rights and freedom of religion in the occupied territories of Georgia and the attempts of the Russian occupation regime to erase the Georgian traces in the occupied territories. The Chairman of the Justice Committee of the Hungarian Parliament once again confirmed Hungary's support for Georgia on its path to European integration.
In order to share best practices among strategic partners, Wejkey promised the guests to provide with the Hungarian Special Law "On Churches" and any regulations related to religious associations and to assist in the examination of legal acts.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Hungary and Montenegro, Tamar Liluashvili, the First Secretary of the Ambassador, Tamar Chkhaidze, the Head of the Legal Maintenance Office of the Agency, Davit Davitashvili, and the Lawyer of the Agency, Aleksandre Shekiladze.
