On the second day of the working visit to the Republic of Armenia, the delegation of the State Agency for Religious Issuers met with the Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Catholicos of All Armenians, Karekin II.
The chairman of the Agency, Zaza Vashakmadze, introduced the main directions of the religious policy of the state of Georgia to the Patriarch of the Armenian Apostolic Church. According to him, the state supports religious organizations, including financially. In addition to the compensation for material and moral damage caused during the Soviet period, municipalities also help them. In particular, the financing of the Armenian community reached one million GEL. The Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Church in Georgia actively participates in the activities of the Interreligious Council.
At the same time, the chairman of the Agency informed Karekin II about the position of the Georgian side regarding the registration of the Church of Georgia in the Republic of Armenia. They also talked about cultural monuments and attention was focused on other important issues for the state of Georgia and the Georgian Church.
The meeting was attended by the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to the Republic of Armenia, Giorgi Sharvashidze and the First Secretary of the Embassy, Shalva Sabauri.
The delegation includes Giorgi Patashuri, an analyst of the Strategic Research, Analysis and Regional Service, and Aleksandre Shekhiladze, a lawyer of the Legal Maintenance Office.
