Funding for Religious Organizations Increased

Today, at the administration of the Government of Georgia, the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze met with the leaders of religious organizations. According to the decision of the Government of Georgia, in order to partially compensate the material and moral damage caused to the four religious associations (Muslim community of Georgia, Apostolic Administration of the Caucasus, Diocese of the Armenian Orthodox Church in Georgia, Union of Jews of Georgia) during the Soviet totalitarian regime, GEL 1 million was added to the existing GEL 4,5 million by 2022.

The decision was made by the government in consultation with the Agency and religious associations. The number of parishioners, clergy, and cult buildings of religious organizations was taken into account. The Government of Georgia will reimburse the amount added to the existing funding from the reserve fund. An additional GEL 1 million will be distributed among religious organizations by the State Agency for Religious Issues. Namely - GEL 600,000 for the Muslim community, GEL 200,000 for the Armenian Church, GEL 100,000 for the Jewish community and GEL 100,000 for the Catholic community.

The meeting at the Administration of the Government of Georgia was attended by the representatives of religious organizations, namely: Chairman of the Union of Jews of Georgia, Abram Chanchalashvili, Rabbi of the Great Synagogue of Tbilisi, Rachamin Murdukhashvili, Priests from the Catholic community Zurab Kakachishvili and Akaki Chelidze, Archimandrite of the Armenian Orthodox Church of Georgia, Kirakos Davtyan, Sheikh of the Administration of All Muslims of Georgia, Ramin Igidov, Mufti of Eastern Georgia, Etibar Eminov, employee of the Administration of All Muslims of Georgia, Oktay Isayev.
