One of the most important holidays for Georgian Orthodox Christians is the day of martyrdom on the wheel of the great martyr George of Cappadocia.
The State Agency for Religious Issues established the tradition of celebrating this day together with compatriots living in the Kakhi region of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The tradition was not broken this year either - a 120-member delegation, consisting of the representatives of the Patriarchate of Georgia, the Administration of All Muslims of Georgia, the Parliament of Georgia, the Administration of the Georgian Government, the Administration of the State Representative in Kakheti region, the representatives of Lagodekhi and Dedoplistskaro City Councils and the Mayor's Office and the Agency staff arrived in Kakhi region.
The members of the delegation visited St. George’s Church in Kakhi, where the Metropolitan of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-klarjeti, the temporary ruler of the Diocese of Khornabuji, Hereti and Nekresi, Theodore (Chuadze), led the festive prayer. After the end of the service the chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, and the Agency staff gave 150 Bibles as a gift to the Orthodox people living in Kakhi.
The delegation included the members of the Parliament of Georgia, Guram Macharashvili and Badri Berianidze, Chairman of Lagodekhi Municipality, Karlo Jamburia, Mayor of Dedoplistskaro Municipality, Nikoloz Janiashvili, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Georgia to Azerbaijan, Zurab Pataradze, Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, Head of the Legal Maintenance Office, Davit Davitashvili, senior specialist, Avtandil Kvernadze, lawyer Aleksandre Shekiladze, manager Lasha Mchedlidze and Agency employee Vazha Artmeladze.
