Today, on May 19, the State Agency for Religious Issues met with Vagif Seidbayil, Deputy Chairman of the State Committee on Work With Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Vusal Mammadov, Head of the Department on Relations with Georgia of the State Committee on Work With Diaspora of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Faig Guliyev Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Georgia at the Government of Georgia.
The Deputy Chairman of the Agency, Giorgi Ukleba, briefed the Azerbaijani delegation on the functions, tasks, projects, trainings and activities implemented by the Agency within the framework of the Human Rights Action Plan. Particular attention was paid to the funding of religious organizations and the activities of the Interreligious Council.
Giorgi Ukleba also focused on the phenomenon of Georgian Islam and its different nature, which is perceived as a positive experience of peaceful coexistence of Shiites and Sunnis. Religious buildings of different faiths gathered in the Maidan are an example of Georgian tolerance.
"Relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia are developing rapidly and dynamically. Both countries are multireligious, so it is very important to work in the field of religion and share experiences between the two countries," said Vagif Seidbayli.
The guests thanked the State Agency for Religious Issues for providing information, praised the projects implemented by the agency and expressed their willingness to cooperate.
