Meeting with the new head of the Evangelical Lutheran Church

Today at the Administration of the Government of Georgia, the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, hosted the Representative of the European Evangelical Churches, Dr. Stefan Kosoaraba, the Representative of the Center for Evangelical Theology in Eastern Europe Pastor Uwe Seidner, historian Bogdan Montean and the new head of the Georgian Evangelical Lutheran Church, Dr. Rolf Barais. The meeting was attended by former Bishop Marcus Shokh, Head of the Agency's Strategic Research, Analysis and Regionalal Service, Nino Chavchavadze and staff of the Agency. The meeting was introductory. Zaza Vashakmadze introduced the guests about the projects implemented by the state to promote and develop religion, in particular: the mechanism for funding religious organizations and the transfer of religious buildings; Cooperation of religious organizations in the format of inter-religious council, ongoing processes in the field of religious freedom in our country and the activity of the Agency in this regard. The Chairman of the Agency especially emphasized the facts of violation of human religious rights in the occupied territories of A/R of Abkhazia and Tskhinvali region. The Chairman noted that with the support of the state, representatives of various religious organizations, including the Evangelical-Lutheran Church, cross the borders of the occupied territories without hindrance, and only the clergy and parishioners of the Georgian Orthodox Church are limited by this opportunity. The guests thanked the head of the Agency for providing interesting information. Dr. Rolf Barais expressed readiness to work more actively with the state and the Agency to facilitate the implementation of the projects useful for the community. Zaza Vashakmadze handed over the publications of the Agency - "Occupied Heritage", "Religions in Georgia" and "Functioning Cult Buildings in Tbilisi as of 2020". At the end of the meeting, former Bishop Marcus Shokh said goodbye and thanked the head of the Agency for the fruitful cooperation.
