Meeting with the Deputy Head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey

Today the chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues Zaza Vashakmadze held a meeting with the Deputy Head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey (Diyanet) With Selim Argun. The meeting was attended by: Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Turkey to Georgia, Fatma Seren Yazgan, Religious Adviser, Ahmed Erdem, chairman of the Quran Study Council, Hafiz Osman Shahin, Deputy Chairman of the agency, George Ukleba, Head of the Strategic Research Analysis, and Regions Office of the agency Nino Chavchavadze and agency staff.

At the meeting, Zaza Vashakmadze spoke about Georgia-Turkey friendship and close cooperation. He informed the guests about the activities of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Religious Policy of Georgia, and the reforms implemented in 2014 in the field of freedom of religion in our country. The head of the agency spoke in detail about the financing of the Muslim community of Georgia and the restitution of religious buildings. According to him, the Muslim community in Georgia has a centuries-old history and is the second-largest religion in the country, so the Georgian state values ​​and cares for it. The chairman of the agency also discussed the format of the Inter-Religious Council and the issues of active involvement of the Administration of Muslims of All Georgia.

The Deputy Head of the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey thanked Zaza Vashakmadze for the hosting and information. Dr Selim Argun spoke about the activities of various religious organizations operating in Turkey. He pointed out that all religions have freedom of belief and when needed the state assists them in addressing the existing challenges they face. The guest welcomed the activities of the State Agency for Religious Issues, emphasizing the importance of regulating relations between the state and religious organizations. According to him, the Directorate of Religious Affairs of Turkey cooperates with 110 countries in the field of religion and the model of the Georgian state in this regard is helpful and effective.
