Zaza Vashakmadze, the Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, met with H.E. Amit Kumar Mishra, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of India to Georgia.

The meeting, held at the Administration of the Government of Georgia, covered Georgia’s state policy on religion, projects implemented to protect religious diversity and freedom of religion and to promote a tolerant environment, the activities of the Interreligious Council, and the functions, goals and objectives of the Agency.

The Chairman paid special attention to the situation in the occupied territories, the A/R of Abkhazia and the Tskhinvali region, particularly to facts of gross human rights violations. According to Zaza Vashakmadze, religious rights are violated in the occupied territories; people are deprived of the right to receive religious services, freedom of movement, and the right to education.

H.E. Amit Kumar Mishra thanked the Chairman of the Agency for the warm reception and noted that the Embassy would actively cooperate with the State Agency for Religious Issues.

At the end of the meeting, the Agency's publications – "Religions in Georgia", "Functioning Cult Buildings in Georgia as of 2023" and "Functioning Cult Buildings in Tbilisi as of 2020"- were presented to the guest.
