The Chairman of the State Agency for Religious Issues, Zaza Vashakmadze, held an introductory meeting with the UN Resident Coordinator to Georgia, Didier Trebucq.
The meeting, traditionally, began with a brief overview of Georgia's religious policy. The Chairman of the Agency introduced the guest to the religious denominations existing in Georgia, the Agency's relationship with them, and the projects implemented by the Agency. Zaza Vashakmadze drew attention to the practice of distributing funds allocated by the State to compensate for material and moral damage caused during the Soviet period, and in general, to the assistance provided by the State for various needs.
Zaza Vashakmadze focused on the facts of violation of the religious rights of the Georgian population living in the occupied territories of Georgia and noted that the Georgian ethnic, religious and cultural traces were being systematically erased in the occupied territories. The Chairman of the Agency also touched upon the activities of the Interreligious Council, the fruitful cooperation between the Agency and the United Nations Children's Fund, and the jointly implemented projects.
The UN Resident Coordinator thanked the Chairman of the Agency for his reception and expressed his desire to continue cooperation with the Agency. At the end of the meeting, the guest was presented with the publications of the Agency.
