Zaza Vashakmadze Met with the State Secretary of the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office

According to the State Agency for Religious Issues, the visit of the Agency's delegation to Hungary has begun.

The Chairman of the Agency, Zaza Vashakmadze, met with the State Secretary of the Hungarian Prime Minister's Office for Churches and Ethnic Minorities, Miklos Soltesz.

In accordance with the Chairman of the Agency, he introduced Miklos Soltesz to the religious composition of Georgia, the State's religious policy, and emphasized the strategic partnership between Georgia and Hungary.

According to them, the chairman of the Agency also spoke about financial assistance to religions in Georgia, including partial compensation for damage caused during the Soviet totalitarian regime and the return of religious buildings. In addition, he noted the role of the Interreligious Council at the Agency and the importance of tolerant and friendly relationship between religious leaders.

“Zaza Vashakmadze also raised the issue of transferring buildings to the Georgian Orthodox Church in Budapest, the capital of Hungary, for the Georgian diaspora and the Georgian parish.

The hosts paid special attention to the facts of violation of fundamental human rights and freedoms, including freedom of religion and belief, in the occupied territories of Georgia, as well as ethnic and religious discrimination by the occupying country, Russia.

Zaza Vashakmadze invited the State Secretary of the Hungarian Prime Minister’s Office to Georgia.

At the end of the meeting, the delegation of the Agency presented Miklos Soltesz with the books published by the Agency - “Occupied Heritage”, “Religions in Georgia”, “Functioning Cult Buildings in Tbilisi as of 2020” and “Functioning Cult Buildings in Georgia as of 2023”.

The parties expressed their desire and readiness for future cooperation.

The meeting was attended by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Hungary and Montenegro Tamar Liluashvili, the First Secretary of the Ambassador Tamar Chkhaidze, the Head of the Legal Maintenance Office of the Agency Davit Davitashvili and the Lawyer of the Agency Aleksandre Shekiladze,” the information says.
